Kindness in Islam

Islam commands kindness towards everything in this universe, including people, animals and even the environment. The Qur’an orders doing good to people. It reads:

Do good, for God loves those who do good. (Al-Baqarah 2:195)

A Muslim is obligated to do good to even animals. Prophet Muhammad was once asked: “O Messenger of God, is there a reward for us in serving animals?” He replied: “Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate being.” (Al-Bukhari)

Islam also enjoins improving the environment as an act of kindness. Prophet Muhammad once said: “There is none amongst Muslims who plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, a person or an animal eats from it but is regarded as a charitable act for him.” (Al-Bukhari)
